Website Maintenance for Small Businesses

A website is not a one-time handoff. Domains renew, business details change, software needs attention, and someone eventually needs to update a page. Dotto offers defined monthly support options so you can choose how much ongoing help makes sense.

WHAT MAINTENANCE IS (AND ISN’T)

Routine care helps; it does not remove every risk.

Maintenance is the ongoing work of keeping a website’s basic operating needs in order: updates, backups, small content changes, and a way to report technical issues. It gives a business an identified support path rather than an open-ended promise that nothing can go wrong.

Maintenance does not automatically include a redesign, unlimited edits, new features, emergency response at all hours, or guaranteed immunity from a security incident. Those boundaries should be clear in the support agreement.

GETTING STARTED

Before taking responsibility for an existing site.

Support depends on the platform, access, hosting, and current condition of the website.

  1. 01

    Review access and platform

Identify the hosting account, domain registrar, site platform, plugins or integrations, and who owns each account.

  2. 02

    Check the starting condition

Discuss known issues, available backups, update status, and any security or uptime concerns.

  3. 03

    Agree the plan boundary

Set expectations for included content changes, requests, reporting, and work quoted separately.

  4. 04

    Start with a clear handoff

Confirm billing, contacts, access, and how to request support before recurring work begins.

SEO IS A SEPARATE WORKSTREAM

For ongoing visibility work, see Local SEO.

The SEO & Growth plan includes monthly search and content tasks. Search rankings depend on many factors outside a maintenance provider’s control; the plan should be evaluated by its agreed work and measured observations, not a ranking guarantee.

A GOOD FIT

Useful if you want a person to call—not a vague promise.

A support plan can be helpful if you do not have the time or confidence to handle routine updates yourself, if business details change regularly, or if you want someone to discuss measured website improvements with.

If your site uses a platform Dotto cannot maintain responsibly, or the site is already unreliable, we will need to review the situation before confirming a plan. For a rebuild rather than routine care, start with web development.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Questions worth asking.

01What does the $50 Maintenance plan include?

The current plan lists hosting and SSL, backups, security updates, minor content changes, and uptime monitoring. Confirm site eligibility and any request limits before signing up.

02What is added in the $100 Growth plan?

It includes the Maintenance items plus more frequent content updates, basic SEO maintenance, Google Business assistance, analytics and reporting, minor design changes, and priority support.

03What does SEO & Growth cost?

The current range is $350–$500 per month. The listed work includes ongoing keyword research, local and technical SEO, page/content updates, Google Business optimization, monitoring, reporting, and competitor research.

04Can you maintain a site you did not build?

Possibly. It depends on the platform, access, and current state. We review those before confirming support.

05Does maintenance guarantee security or uptime?

No. Updates, backups, and monitoring reduce some avoidable risks, but cannot guarantee that no incident, outage, or data loss will ever happen.
